Our Jamie…. or better known as “Husky”

Jamie David Huscroft arrived in this world on 21st August 2001 and from the beginning he was a” non-sleeping” buddle of joy, laughter and mischievous antics……nothing has changed….at 19 he was still a” non-sleeping” buddle of joy, laughter and mischievous antics!

All through his life what he lacked in height he so made up for in character……4 fold!

Chloe and Jamie, or by us referred to as CJ & Husky, formed a special bond of love straight away and that has stayed throughout their sibling relationship. We’ve lost count of the times those two would be scheming together. Always there for each other and always will be.

Jamie attended Crossdale Primary School and many of his friends here today will recall the fun times.  We’re convinced that Jamie must hold the record for the number of “bump head” letters sent home to parents…. we received at least one a week. But we can also remember Jamie saying that no one makes better fish & chips than Mrs Stockdale….an accolade she still holds today.

Moving onto South Wolds Academy & 6th Form…. the number of times we attended parents evening to walk away thinking “are they talking about our son”, the same child that pulled himself out of bed 5 minutes after he should have been at tutor (if he attended at all!), who we thought never did his homework but to be told what a lovely lad he was and how well he was doing….could have done more but Jamie was always of the mindset of “why do extra, that just a waste of Xbox time”!

Speaking of antics, we can still recall the telephone call from school saying “don’t worry but we’re called an ambulance as Jamie had fallen backwards down a hill”. Rushing to school we found Jamie laid out on a stretcher with a neck brace being carried to the ambulance.  Chloe had been tracked down and she took one look and said…nah he’s fine and she was so correct. After an exciting trip in the ambulance, copious amounts of gas & air, we arrived at QMC….an hour later still strapped to the stretcher he pipes up “I’m bored, can we go home now”!

We can’t tell you how nervous we were when he went to collect his GCSE results as he hated taking exams so wasn’t sure which way it would go…. but in Jamie’s usual style his grades were phenomenal!  So onwards to 6th Form.

He spent three years at 6th Form having changed a subject after year one so crossed over two age groups.  He ended up taking some classes with our good family friend, Tash Malik. I know some teachers didn’t know what to do with the pair…. laughing and causing disruptions whilst still completing the work (apparently). Miss Capewell had the short straw of teaching Jamie on a Friday after the usual Thursday night out in town.

Jamie achieved excellent A level grades without taking an exam…thank you Covid….and so moved onto his first choice of studying Sports Psychology at Liverpool John Moore University. We purposely selected an accommodation where he could roll out of bed and cross the road to be on campus…something he never got to do. His first year at university was not quite what he had planned as he was so looking forward to freshers but he still managed to forge new friendships and party despite lockdown restrictions.

We received the following feedback from this tutor and Director of Sport:

“Jamie was an excellent student who attended every Personal Tutor meeting from induction through the academic year. He contributed actively in discussions and was supportive to others who were less confident in offering comment through the online format this year.”

“It is clear that Jamie was an engaging and caring student. Despite the learning challenges that we were all faced with this year, Jamie was able to pass his first year as a Sport Psychology student with a 2:1”

We are so proud of you son….

Jamie loved all sports…. played football for Keyworth United from the age of 5, joined Plumtree Cricket Club from the age of 7, West Bridgford Colts football club from 11, even had a few seasons playing rugby at Keyworth Rugby Club and enjoyed golf at County level for a few years.

He’s won numerous football awards, players player, parents’ player, managers player. His little grandad taught him how to play football with both feet from an early age and Jamie had such a special talent for reading the game. His tactical play was second to none.

The other sports phased out but Jamie was still a member of Plumtree Cricket Club and took 4 wickets on his last game so it’s only fitting that we hold his “celebration of life” here.

Again, he won numerous trophies for his bowling…. but highlights include getting 6 for 21 in senior cricket against Wollaton and being awarded the “spud” Oldham Trophy for the Colt of the Year in 2019.

…. but what Jamie loved the most, was camaraderie of the lads and the post-match get togethers at PCG.  If the walls of the clubhouse behind could speak….

Jamie also loved the “Dads and Lads” trips to watch rugby at Twickenham and his trips to the Larwood before and after watching Forest….and was excited days before the Forest v Derby fixtures.

This boy has also travelled…. we have so many memories of great family holidays..

Majorca, Menorca, Fuerteventura, Florida, Bahamas, Dubai, Lanzarote, Cruising around the med….to ports in France, Spain, Italy and Corsica.

He absolutely loved the joint family holidays with the Daft’s and Collishaw’s especially our annual New Year getaways to exotic places like Newcastle and Cardiff which amazingly coincided with Nottingham Forest playing there!  It didn’t matter where we were…it was always fun.

Then of course, the “must have boys first holiday at the age of 17” to Zante…we’ll say no more about that one!

Jamie loved all sorts of music, from rappers to Dubliners, Gerry Cinnamon to Dolly Parton…. Jamie knew how to get a party started and was fantastic at delivering a play list to suit any occasion.

He spent many an hour screaming and shouting at his TV whilst playing Xbox. Our lovely neighbours didn’t mind one bit. Not sure what they thought however when he played darts against the adjoining wall at 3am in the morning…. all you would hear was thud thud thud…..he slept all day and awake all night.

We have a “Huscroft house rule….well an Andrea rule” that he had to wake us up when he got in after a night out, didn’t matter what time, and that was either fulfilled by popping his head round the door to say “hi, I’m home”, belly flopping on the bed, relaying the antics of the evening or asking me if I want to speak to the person he was currently face timing….we will so miss those times.

Jamie touched so many lives and everyone here today will have their own stories…some we should hear and some we should definitely not…. but he will be remembered by all as the fun loving, smiley cheeky lad he was.  He might only have been 19 but boy did he live life to the full…. every day was an adventure.

……so as you head off on your last adventure we want you to know that we love you so much son……take care you’ll always be in our thoughts.
